Store Renovation

Newest Project:

Build-out for a 3,000 sq ft storefront.

More details to come.

Yes, there is also a website for the store in the works as well...

Here's a wall.

It's 12', 7" long and 43" tall (with the finish trim/cap), to match the height of the window sills.

Yes, it's level.

Yes it's plumb. That's "straight" for you non-carpenter types... ;)

Scratch that. Here's two walls.

They form the playroom for the new store that's going in here.

Yes, they're both plumb...

As you can see, I had to go into the floor to support the wall.

You know, to prevent the kids from knocking em' over.

Let me tell you, this wasn't fun; cutting into 1.5 inch thick plywood to get to the floor joists.

Here's the front display stand. There's a matching one of the other side.

They're built to support a full grown person(s) but will only be supporting gear and equipment.

This one is 11',9" long, 30" deep, and 24.75" tall.

Interesting fact (ok, not really); They angle off the wall at a 35.5° angle.

Here's the same display base with drywall.

Another interesting fact: Did you know the French are known for their work with cement? Did not know this, found out this past summer.

Figures that I'm good at drywalling...

The playroom walls as I left them yesterday.

[I'm not doing the painting, I turned it down.]

Before.

(Look up.)

After(ish). The ceiling wasn't quite complete when this picture was shot.

It was, however, complete when I walked out of the store at 1am.

The front display base as I left it yesterday.

There you have it, that's where I've been for the better part of the last two weeks. I've laid over 360 linear feet of baseboard trim, 150 feet of window and wall trim, hung 3 doors, cut myself too many times to count, and have survived off of about 3-4 hours of sleep a night.

I forgot how much I love renovation...

Store Renovation II

Here's the finished ceiling/store. Well, not "finished" in the sense that the doors are opened tomorrow, more, "finished" in the sense that I'm done with all of the projects I was hired to do. There is still a plethora of things left to be accomplished, but those will be handled primarily by other people. My tasks were:
  1. Replace ceiling.
  2. Replace all door locks.
  3. Build out new window sills (those large windows on the left side of the pictures.)
  4. Build playroom walls (those half walls at the back of the store).
  5. Build out display platforms in front windows.
  6. Repair the office walls (the room on the other side of the orange wall).
  7. Replace/hang doors and hardware (4 ea).
  8. Install baseboard trim (dark green stripe all the way around the store.) 360 linear ft.
  9. Install lights in bathrooms.
  10. Repair window/door trims.
  11. Repair walls.
  12. A bunch of misc that just came up while being there.
The original completion date for all these projects to be done was 2/20/08. I started 1/5/08. On 1/12/08 I was told the painters were starting earlier than expected and I only had 10(ish) days to complete the majority of the projects (esp sense they had to paint the baseboard, walls, window sills, etc.). The last major project I did was the ceiling tiles, which I finished Thursday night/Friday morning.
